There are more signs that life is getting back to normal in the Crescent City. After the longest break in its 153-year history, Cafe Du Monde will fill the air around Jackson Square with the aroma of beignets and coffee, when it reopens next week.
The restaurant is usually open 24 hours a day but closed the day before Katrina hit. Caf? Du Monde will reopen Wednesday at 6 a.m.
Another local landmark is also reopening for business. The Hotel InterContinental New Orleans, located on St. Charles Avenue in the Central Business District, will hold a ceremony at noon Monday, followed by a traditional New Orleans meal of red beans and rice.
Hotel general manager Scott Dawson said he views the reopening as the most important business milestone in the hotels 20-year commitment to the city.
